Odyssey of the Mind Team Advances to World Finals

Odyssey of the Mind Fundraiser Information - Charlie's Restaurant

Odyssey of the MindA team of students from the Broadalbin-Perth Middle School is advancing to the World Finals of the Odyssey of the Mind Competition in Michigan. The team is made up of seven students: Lily Maier, MacKenzie Young, Lauren Simonds, Courteney Oare, Emily Spraggs, Connor Rebis and Lydia Dake. The team competed in the Food Court problem, division II. The problem is to create and present a humorous performance where a food item is accused of being unhealthy and must defend itself among its food peers. All characters are food items and will include "the accused," "the accuser," a jury that is not portrayed by team members, and additional team-created characters. The jury will reveal its decision to the audience. All of this had to be done without any outside assistance from adults.

To advance to Worlds, the team first had to win at regional competition at Broadalbin-Perth. They competed against 7 other teams across the region. Next, they competed against the winners of 16 other regions across New York State at Binghamton University. The top two teams in each division advance to The World Finals. For the second year in a row this team came in first at the State Tournament, beating out 17 other teams. This will be their third trip to World Finals.

The 31st Odyssey of the Mind World Finals will be held from May 26 to 29th at the Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan.

The team will be holding some fundraising events to help offset the families’ cost for the trip. For more information, please contact Charla Simonson at 954-2623.
