Students in Broadalbin-Perth High School's concert choir, concert band and jazz ensemble traveled to Washington, D.C., April 29-May 2, to compete in the North American Music Festival. The performing groups brought quite a bit of hardware with them when they returned home Sunday night, escorted through the villages of Perth and Broadalbin by the local volunteer fire companies:
-
The concert choir received first place in the mixed choir division, as well as the most outstanding choir award for the festival (competing against choirs from other categories, such as women's choir and madrigal choir).
- It was the first time the Broadalbin-Perth concert choir had ever received the most outstanding choir award; the district has participated in the festival every-other-year for 12 years.
- The jazz ensemble received first place in its division, and senior tenor saxophonist Brandon Bezio received the festival's most outstanding soloist award.
- The concert band finished second in its division.
In addition to performing in the festival, students also had the opportunity to explore the nation's capital, visiting each of the major monuments and spending a day exploring the Smithsonian museums.
