Senior Citizens Win Free Lesson in Pack Basket Weaving
Eight senior citizens won the opportunity to receive a free lesson in creating Adirondack Pack Baskets, one of the oldest traditions still surviving in the Adirondack Park. A drawing was held to select the eight winners during the Senior Citizen Prom, which was held on March 19th. The baskets were traditionally used to carry heavy loads needed for fishing, hunting or trapping.
Accompanied by the 8th grade accelerated art students, the senior citizens attended a 7-hour workshop on Wednesday, May 26th. They enjoyed refreshments and great conversations with the accelerated art students; exchanging names and getting ready for the event. The senior citizens then took their spots with their 8th grade accelerated art student buddy and created a mini basket. A great time was had by all.
A special thank you to Ms. Quackenbush for hosting the workshop and organizing the free raffle during the Senior Citizen Prom.
