B-P elementary students celebrate D.E.A.R. Day

For 30 minutes on Tuesday, Nov. 29, everyone at Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School and The Learning Community was reading. The schools were participating in D.E.A.R. – “Drop Everything And Read” – Day, an event that encourages families to make reading a regular part of their day.

Students chose from a wide variety of titles at the intermediate school, while adults were seen reading books, magazines, newspapers. Art teacher Jon Aery even used his iPad to read a book about basketball during the 30-minute D.E.A.R. activity. At The Learning Community, B-P’s youngest students participated by listening to their teachers read aloud to them.

Traditionally, D.E.A.R. Day is celebrated on April 12, the birthday of children’s author Beverly Cleary. For more information about D.E.A.R. Day, visit www.dropeverythingandread.com
