The eighth grade Project Adventure students recently participated in eight days of after school activities and attended a weekend-long fieldtrip to the SUNY Cortland Outdoor Education Center at Camp Huntington on Raquette Lake.

While at Raquette Lake, students and staff enjoyed a weekend away from technology and took pleasure in all that nature had to offer. The students were challenged to step out of their comfort zone and try new things through participating in team building initiatives and physical activities. These activities included: playing broomball, learning how to cross-country ski, star gazing on the ice road, partaking in a night vision lesson, completing a night solo walk, hiking to St. William’s Church and Camp Kirby, walking across the ice road, and contributing to Kitchen Patrol duty, just to mention a few. Participants learned a great deal about themselves and others while on the trip.

As the weekend drew to an end, the students wrote “Raquette Lake Reflections” about their field trip experiences. Excerpts from their reflections can be found in the newsletter below.

Rachel’s Challenge encourages students to appreciate the goodness and caring of people who are a part of our ordinary day-to-day lives. Our BPMS Rachel’s Challenge Club members recently showed their appreciation to our school lunch staff with thank you cards and cupcakes. We like school lunches- especially the mashed potato bowls and pizza!

Rachel Joy Scott’s message of kindness and compassion has reached nearly 17 million people nationwide. Rachel, who was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, left behind six diaries and a desire for positive change that has evolved into Rachel’s Challenge.

The B-P Middle school has accepted the following five powerful challenges that are based on the writings and life of Rachel Joy Scott:

1. To eliminate prejudice by looking for the best in others.
2. To dare to dream. Set goals. Keep a journal to keep on track.
3. Choose your influences- input determines output.
4. Kind works & small acts of kindness = HUGE impact.
5. Start a chain reaction through kind words and deeds.
