Expectations & Outcomes

 for Spanish 8

  • Participation refers to interaction in Spanish, asking and answering questions with the teacher and other students, giving and responding to commands, working in pairs or groups on skill-building tasks, participating in games & skits, singing and dancing or other communicative assignments. Inappropriate behavior or non-participation will lower the participation grade. A good attendance record is very important as participation grades cannot be made up.

  • Homework is necessary to reinforce what is presented in class, identify problem learning areas, and facilitate student competency in Spanish. Regular preparation guarantees that students will recognize what they have learned and what they still don't understand. It gives the students and the teacher an opportunity to decide whether to review material or to go ahead. If students haven't done the work, they're unaware of their own knowledge base. Homework is normally assigned Monday through Thursday, with tasks designed to require 20-30 minutes of student concentration. Homework must be done legibly and it will be checked for quality. No credit will be given for assignments copied from other students. There are no make-ups for daily homework, except for excused absences. Any homework not done will result in a 0.

  • Tests and quizzes will be announced 1-2 days ahead of time with a description of the material to be covered, and the general format. The teacher will endeavor to have all tests graded and returned within one week. Students may only make up tests missed due to excused absences.

  • Classroom policy, students are given two days from the date they  return to school to hand in missing assignments. Making up an assignment is the student's responsibility; I will try but will not always be able to remind him/her. Make ups and tutoring will be arranged by the student with the teacher in room 101.
