B-P Middle School Science
Each year B-P Middle School students participate at the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair. This year there were six students who presented their independent projects at the fair. Abigail Samples and Alyssa Miller worked as a team and their project was, “Testing Simple Homemade Electric Generators”. These students received special recognition from the Nuclear Society for their research related to energy.
Another team that presented was Emily Spain and Meghan Clemente. Their project was titled, “Do Males or Females have Better Results and a Better Time when taking the Stroop Effect Test?” Emily and Meghan received and Honorable Mention in the Junior Division. Emily and Meghan were invited to participate in the Society for Science and the Public. This is a national competition that is designed specifically for middle school students.
Hannah Pickering presented, “Volleyball, Football, Track, Oh My: Measuring Stress on the Patellar Tendon in Static Pose.” Hannah received third place overall in the Junior Division. Along with the bronze medal Hannah also received an Invitation to the Society for Science and the Public. Hannah also received an invitation to present at the STANYS State Science Congress which highlights the best projects in New York State.
Madison Wilcox presented, “How Do the Properties of Different Rubber Balls Affect their Resiliency and Elasticity?” Madison received special recognition from the National Society of Professional Engineers. Madison also received a gold medal and won first place overall in the Junior Division. Madison received and invitation to the Society for Science and the Public and to the STANYS State Science Congress.
These young scientists should be commended for their hard work and determination on designing and researching such complex projects in eighth grade. Ms. Stabrowski, their science instructor, is proud that they took this opportunity to excel in science. Congratulations!
