December 2005 Update – Capital Project
Our Capital Project, encompassing both new additions and renovations throughout the district, began in July 2004. One and half years later, much construction work has been completed.
Site renovations play a large part of reconstruction. At both the Perth and Broadalbin elementary campuses, new playscapes have been installed. Children of all ages have been enjoying the new equipment throughout the fall months. At the high school location, the newly named Patriot Field was converted to field turf. In addition to soccer and football games, when weather permits, the field is used daily for physical educational classes. Ready for spring 2006 will be the varsity baseball field with a new backstop and infield. In between the baseball field and Primary School playscape is the creation of two additional soccer fields to be used for both games and practices. It is anticipated that the fields will be ready for the spring 2007 season. The same is true for the recreated fields at the Perth site. Ready for spring 2007 play will be an additional soccer/softball field located behind the Intermediate School wing. And the modified football field, sodded rather than seeded, will see its first use during the fall 2006 football season. In addition to athletic fields and playscapes, renovated parking lots, student drop-off zones and bus loops have been a large part of our capital construction project.
Inside the High, Middle, Intermediate and Primary Schools, much work has been completed. All schools have opened their newly renovated administrative offices and reception areas. At the high school, the new entrance was recently opened; it leads to the new HS Media Center located at the front of the complex and directly upstairs are seven new classrooms. At the far end of the high school, much work is being done to complete a new gymnasium and fine arts wing with a tentative completion date of December 05/January 06. Currently, demolition work is being done to create new science labs and lecture classroom as well as three additional classrooms.
At the Perth site, five renovated science and special educational classrooms were completed and readied to begin the new school year within the Middle School. More recently, the band room (with additional practice, storage and office spaces), technology classroom and computer lab were completed. Both the boys' and girls' locker rooms at the Perth site are expected to be completed within the month.
At the Transportation Center located at the corner of Pine Street and Route 29, our district buses are now under cover! Scheduled for December 2005 is the renovation of the boiler room.
As always, the District appreciates your patience and support as the capital project works toward completion. Please watch for further information regarding a GRAND OPENING as the district invites the community to tour the new facility.
