A research engineer for GlobalFoundries on Friday visited Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School to share his experiences working with semiconductors. Kevin Ryan spoke to students about how semiconductors work, how GlobalFoundries builds them, and the areas of research GlobalFoundries is focusing on for the next generations.

“As an engineer, the best tool you have is math,” he told the crowd.

Ryan also broke down the basics of binary code, explained how microchips are made, and put on the suit he’s required to wear when working in a clean room.
