Some
of our goals:
Understanding the characteristics of another culture through study of even one language other than English may help to prepare students for future contact with people from distant places on our planet.
At the same time, foreign language study will reinforce and deepen our abilities in the use of our own English language by understanding structure and increasing vocabulary through the study of cognates and word derivations. Students can improve English reading and writing skills.
Upper levels work toward understanding and producing Spanish in order to be able to:
Succeed in the Regents exam,
Adapt to university language study,
Communicate on some level with Spanish speaking people.
Successfully completing High School Level One will allow students to do one or more of the following:
Continue with language study.
Satisfy the Graduation Requirement. If the requirement has not been met during 7th and 8th grade, it must be completed in High School.
Satisfy the NYS foreign language requirement when transferring from another district or state.
Add an additional foreign language to previous study.
