Technology skills are best learned when infused into the curriculm. The 3rd grade classroom teachers, media specialist, art specialists and the computer specialists work as a team with the 3rd grade students to create, illustrate, "publish" and cite resources of their book.

Students in grade 3 will develop and refine their word processing and editing skills using MS Office 2000 to produced a researched based book with graphics. These skills include inputting text, formatting text, inserting or modifying, deleting, saving, editing, proofreading, spell/grammar check cropping and printing. These skills are developed in conjunction with a language arts and science or social studies indisciplinary project. Correct keyboarding and touch typing techniques will be practiced, but not mastered at this level.

Students will learn to apply a variety of electronic research and reference tools. Students will apply key word searching techniques on the Internet and databases. Internet safety will be encouraged and discussed.

Students will receive computer graphic instruction by the art specialist using KidPix, students will learn to create with light using a mouse. Students will develop skills with electronic media as a mean of expressing visual ideas.
