Technology is infused into the academic curriculum. The 4th and 5th classroom teachers team with the computer teacher on a variety of project based learning activities based on their academic curriculum. This process requires ongoing planning, refinement, effort and evaluation by the 4th and 5th grade level teams. Our school philosophy, standards, curriculum objectives, teaching strategies, academic priorities and accessibility have an impact on our technology program at the Intermediate School. Our academic curriculum drives the skill development, integration and utilization of technology.

1. Students will use instructional software to acquire skills and knowledge in academic areas. Students will interact with instructional software to provide a more individualized, learner center environment.

2. Students will be able to identify different technology tools. Students will exhibit proper care and usage of the technology tools. Students will demonstrate knowledge what tools (technology as well as non-technology tools) are the most appropriate for the task or problem at hand. Students will demonstrate a positive attitude about utilizing technology tools. Computer ethics and safety will be addressed and encouraged.

3. Students will interact with a computer; they will use arrow keys, mouse and menus to maneuver within a program or around a screen. Students will recognize special keys and their primary usage. Students will follow oral directions as well as visual directions. Special Ed students may use devices suited to their individual needs.

4. Students will acquire skills in using application software such as MS Office which includes: Excel, Publisher, Word and Power Point. Utility software such as Time liner, Photo Studio, crossword builder, story creation programs, etc.are also used.

5. Students will acquire word-processing and editing skills using MS Office 2000. These skills include saving, editing, spell/ grammar check and printing document. This is done in conjunction with a language arts / writing or interdisciplinary project. Correct keyboarding skills will be encouraged, but not mastered. Editing / saving / printing techniques will be applied to other media forms. Editing techniques include proofreading, insert, delete, move, center, search, indent, replace, fonts, bold, underlining, etc.

6. Students will have opportunity to utilize multimedia technology such as Power Point 2000 to build presentations on various individual / team related projects. Students will develop communication skills (oral, written & graphical) along with presentation skills that may encompass different forms of media. Multimedia projects are encouraged.

7. Students will form simple research strategies, determining which sources will meet their informational needs. Students will locate and access information by use of key words & appropriate menu choices. Students will be able to use a variety of search engines to find information on the Internet. Students will be able to cite an Internet resource using copy and paste of web address.
