To satisfy NCLB requirements, students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades are administered New York State created tests in English Language Arts and Math. Grade 4 is also tested in Science and grade 5 is administered the Social Studies assessment. Students will no longer take the Metropolitan tests and the district benchmarks in English Language Arts and math.
The New York State Language Arts Assessment will be administered to all 4th grade students from January 10th through the 12th. Grade 5 will be tested on the 10th and 11th only. Our sixth graders will be tested the following week on January 17, 18 and 19. The weather plays a critical factor in our test schedule. Snow days or snow delays will extend the testing schedule.
The New York State Mathematics Assessment will be administered to all 4th and 5th grade students on March 7th, 8th and 9th. Grade 6 will be tested the following week on March 14th, 15th and 16th.
The New York State Science Assessment will be administered to all 4th grade students on Tuesday, May 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
With respect to NYS tests, testing periods occur in short time blocks over several days to enable students to 'be at their best' during test-taking intervals.
Parents are asked to make sure that your child is physically well and rested. A good night sleep prior to testing increases your child's ability to think clearly. Anutritious breakfast the day of testing helps children keep up their enery and perform at their personal best.
