The more you read
The more you know
The more you know
The smarter you grow
The smarter you grow
The stronger your voice
When speaking your mind
Or making a choice.

I was recently reacquainted with this poem and I thought it worth sharing. It truly conveys one of the reasons we all work so diligently to educate our children. Reading and writing have always been a focus at the Primary School and will continue to be so. The foundation for literacy success is laid in a child's early years. While teachers play a significant role in teaching reading, family plays a major role as well. Research has shown that mothers can help children to become lifelong readers, but a father's role is equally important. Children watch their parents, making subconscious notes of what they do. If reading is not something that both parents do, then the likelihood of a child becoming a reader is much less, which will affect his/her whole future. So moms, please read to your children. Dads, it is important that you read with them too...read books, magazines, newspapers, comics, children's books, whatever you can find! Let them see you reading….and continuing the lifelong learning process for yourself….and for your children's future.
The Broadalbin-Perth Parent Teacher Association will be expressing appreciation to our teachers with a “Staff Appreciation Day” on Wednesday, May 9 th . I encourage you to help your child write a note of appreciation to a BPPS staff member that has helped him/her during this school year. These notes will be treasured by those that receive them.
Please mark your calendar for the upcoming school budget vote – May 15 th . You must be pre-registered to vote.
Take some time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather with your family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. LaFountain
