Our Philosophy:
We believe that the purpose of the library media center program is to promote a love of reading, research and lifelong learning.

Classes:
Students in kindergarten through third grade visit the library media center on a weekly basis for instruction and book selection.

Number of Books Students May Check Out:
Kindergarten - 1
First Grade - 1
Second Grade - 1 until about mid year, then 2 at the discretion of Media Specialist
Third Grade - 2

*Parents may sign up for a PIN number and check out as many as six books at a time. Please feel free to stop in any time.

Length of sign-out period and renewal:
Kdg. – 2nd grades one week (on student’s library day)
3rd grades one week (unless students are using it for Book-It
assignments or research projects)

* If your child is not finished reading a book he/she may renew the book for up to two additional times.

Overdue Policy:
There are no fines for overdue books. Students cannot check out a new book until the overdue book is returned. If a student can not find his/her book, we ask that parents/guardians send us a brief note indicating that you are aware of this and are still searching for the book. Once we receive this note your child may continue to borrow books.

Damaged or Lost Books:
Parents are expected to pay for any damaged or lost book. If the book is returned damaged, you will receive a bill right away. Patrons will be billed for “lost” books sometime in December or June, depending on when the book was lost. The amount billed will depend on when they book was purchased and the amount of damage. During your child’s first library class he/she will be introduced to ways to care for a library book and the importance of keeping books in a “safe place”. We talk about ways books may become damaged and how they should be kept away from “pups that like to chew”, “bottles that leak in book bags” or “little brothers and sisters that like to color with crayons or tear pages”.

As a district, we are very fortunate to have such an extensive collection of books for our children to enjoy. We urge all parents/guardians to take a few moments to talk with your child and, together, find a “safe place” where your child may keep his/her book. It is important that your child return library books on his/her scheduled library day.

The B-P Primary School Media Center staff would like to extend their appreciation for all of your cooperation and kind support. Thank You!!
