Social Work Services

District social workers provide an array of services to district students and families. Social workers offer classroom-based guidance on topics such as how to make & keep friends, how to respond effectively to criticism, teasing, anger, sexual harassment, and school bullies. Social workers provide group and individual counseling to students needing ongoing support with concern to academic, interpersonal, and family issues.

When social conflicts or repeated conduct concerns for a student compete with academics, social workers may be directed or requested by building administrators, faculty, and parents to assist with the remediation of such concerns.

Social workers, like school counselors, may serve as a communication link between school and home regarding student behavioral and interpersonal concerns. Social workers are available to parents for purposes of consultation and referral to local and regional community-based programs and providers.

Speech and Language Services

Speech and language specialists offer services to special education students with moderate to severe communication disorders including voice, fluency, hearing and language deficits.

Physical and Occupational Therapy

The district Committee on Special Education assesses student eligibility for these services. District-based clinicians, as distinct from hospital and clinic-based providers, focus exclusively on target behaviors pertinent to improving student's level of functioning in a school setting.
