The Learning Community is hosting Summer Story Hours Wednesdays this summer from noon to 1 p.m. in the TLC library. Students are welcome to dress up each day as they enjoy a new story hour theme each week.

The theme of the first Summer Story Hour of the year was “Lost in Space.” On Wednesday, July 12, Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School Principal Dan Casey read “Here in Space” by David Milgrim and “Moonball” by Jane Yolen to a crowd of more than 50 elementary and preschool-age students and their parents and guardians. After listening to the stories, the students completed a craft and ate a snack, with parents joining in to assist the youngest participants.

According to Casey, the Summer Story Hour program is designed to inspire and motivate children to keep reading throughout the summer. Both The Learning Community and intermediate school encourage students to read during July and August through summer reading initiatives.

The Learning Community will host three more Summer Story Hours with different themes:

  • July 19 – “Roaming through the Jungle”
  • August 2 – “Arctic Exploration”
  • August 9 – ”Drifting on the Ocean”

Parents interested in attending a Summer Story Hour with their children must register in advance by calling the TLC main office at 954-2650.
