4th-graders take a bite out of New York

To culminate their studies of New York state geography, fourth-graders in Kelly Hanson’s and James Paquin’s room decorated cookies shaped like the Empire State, marking its main geographical features, as well as the state capitol and other important cities.

Each student also created a key for the edible map that showed which ingredients stood for features such as the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, and cities such as Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, and New York City.

All the ingredients were edible, and the students enjoyed eating their work when they were finished.

The students have been studying New York State geography in class and in the media center with Flo Glasser.
