The Broadalbin-Perth Central School District is now accepting bids for the work defined in Phase 1 of the $39.7 million project approved by voters in May 2016.
Qualified contractors are invited to submit sealed bids to complete site work construction at the Broadalbin campus, Perth campus or both campuses before 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 27, 2017. Bids should be submitted to the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District Business Office, 20 Pine Street, Broadalbin, NY 12025. Bids will be opened and read aloud publicly after the deadline and all interested parties are invited to attend.
At the Perth site, Phase 1 is slated to include all external work, including more than doubling the number of parking spaces and adding a separate access road from County Highway 107 into the parent and visitor parking lot. The district will also rehabilitate the existing baseball and softball fields, and expand the walking trail to create an educational nature trail.
At the Broadalbin campus, Phase 1 will include all the athletic field work, including replacing the existing turf and resurfacing the track at Patriot Field, creating new baseball and softball fields, creating a 1.6-mile cross country trail with trail spurs for use as a nature trail, and adding an access road with parking adjacent to the new varsity baseball and softball fields. Phase 1 also includes redirecting the main campus drive from County Road 126 as part of a larger effort to mitigate traffic flow issues behind B-P High School. Existing parking at the Broadalbin campus will be addressed in a later phase of the project.
The only interior work that is included in Phase 1 is replacement of the 40-year-old energy management system at both campuses. This is considered an urgent need because, due to the age of the system, replacement parts are no longer available.
District leaders hope to sign contracts with the successful bidders by early April. They expect Phase 1 work to begin in mid-April and continue through December 2017.
A pre-bid conference will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 13 in the middle school cafeteria at 1870 County Hwy 107, Amsterdam. For more information or to obtain bidding documents, drawings or specifications, interested contractors may contact Michael Carney, B-P director of operations and safety, at (518) 954-2512, or Paul Nickerson of CSArch at (518) 463-8068.
