
Eight senior student-athletes from Broadalbin-Perth were recognized this week for their commitment to continue their academic and athletic careers at college. The athlete’s families were in attendance as Tucker Gifford, B-P’s Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Nursing and Mark Brooks, B-P Senior High School Principal, commended their contributions to the B-P athletics department and wished them well on the next step in their academic and athletic careers.
Student-athletes honored included:

Lauralie Grainer (soccer)
College: Elmira College
Major: Biology
Parents: Ashley and Ryan Schotts
While at B-P, Lauralie also played basketball and softball. She was a scholar athlete from 2018-2021 and was named to the all-Foothills Council second team in 2019.

Jillian Bazan (soccer)
College: SUNY Adirondack
Major: Criminal Justice
Parents: Heather and Darryl Bazan
Jillian previously received the Most Improved Award for the B-P girls soccer team. In addition to athletics, she was an honor roll student for all four years of high school and a member of the National Honor Society.

Ryan Visco (baseball)
College: SUNY Brockport
Major: Sport Studies/Physical Education
Parents: Barb and Tony Visco
Ryan also was a member of the football and basketball teams at B-P. He served as captain of the baseball team and holds the school record for most stolen bases. He was also named a first-team all-star by the Amsterdam Recorder. Academically, Ryan was on the Principal’s List throughout his time at B-P.

Jake Terwilliger (baseball)
College: Bard College
Major: Computer Science
Parents: Heather and Jim Terwilliger
Jake also was a member of the B-P golf team and was an honor roll student for all four years of high school.

Makenzie Smith (basketball)
College: University of South Carolina Aiken
Major: Nursing
Parents: April and David Montenaro
Mackenzie was an honor roll student while at B-P. She excelled on the basketball court and accomplished the prestigious goal of scoring more than 1,000 points in her high school career. She was also named as a member of the all-Foothills Council second team and most recently, to the all-Foothills Council first team.

Jackson Sassanella (basketball)
College: Alfred University
Major: Business
Parents: Jennifer Mormile and Jeremy Sassanella
Jackson also played football while at B-P. He was named to the all-Foothills Council second team in basketball during the 2019-20 season.

Ava Tyler (pole vault)
College: University at Albany
Major: Human Biology
Parents: Martha and Sean Tyler
Ava also ran cross country while at B-P. She excelled at the pole vault throughout high school, having qualified for the state tournament twice. She was the MVP of the track team, holds the school records for both indoor and outdoor pole vault and was the individual Foothills Council and Sectional champion in pole vault. Academically, Ava has been on the honor roll all four years, with several semesters on either high honor roll or the Principal’s List.

Dan Dylong (pole vault)
College: SUNY Delhi
Major: Residential Construction
Parents: Christine Dylong
In addition to track, Dan also ran cross country while at B-P. He has several standout performances as a pole vaulter including Sectional runner-up in both 2019 and 2021 and second place in the Foothills Council for both indoor and outdoor. Dan was part of B-P’s 2018 and 2019 Sectional Championship teams. In 2021, the team placed second at sectionals.
