B-P residents approve budget, buses

By a vote of 423 to 221, residents of the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District approved a $38,074,070 budget for the 2019-20 school year. The approved budget calls for a 3.9% spending increase from the 2018-19 school year and a 3.9% tax levy increase, which is below the district’s calculated tax levy “cap.”

District residents also approved (470 to 170) a proposition that will allow Broadalbin-Perth to purchase three 66-passenger school buses and one 20-passenger bus. The state will pay for approximately 77% of the cost of the purchase, and there is no tax increase associated with the bus purchase.

Residents also voted to fill one seat on the Broadalbin-Perth Board of Education. Incumbent Ed Szumowski, who was running unopposed for re-election, received 519 votes.
