During a virtual forum for elementary parents Wednesday evening, Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School Principal Dan Casey announced that the “staggered start” schedule for students in the 100% in-person learning model would be shortened by a week. Starting Monday, Sept. 21, all students in grades K-4 who opted for the 100% in-person learning model will attend school five days a week. Students in grades 5-6 will continue in an every other day hybrid learning model, potentially through the end of the first trimester, while B-P continues to evaluate the feasibility of bringing these students in every school day.
Students in grades 1-6 in the 100% in-person learning model will attend school every other day Sept. 14-18. Students in grades 2, 4 and 6 will attend school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and students in grades 1, 3 and 5 will attend school Tuesday and Thursday. On the days students are not in school, they will engage in remote learning activities, including paper packets mailed or sent home. Students in the 100% in-person learning model will not need technology devices for remote learning during the first week of school.
All students whose families opted for the 100% remote learning model will begin engaging in remote learning activities on Monday, Sept. 14. Families who requested to borrow district-owned devices for their children may pick them up 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the senior high school bus loop, 100 Bridge Street, Broadalbin. Students in pre-K through grade 2 will be issued iPads, and students in grades 3-6 will be issued Chromebooks.
Kindergartners in the 100% in-person learning model will engage in remote learning activities the week of Sept. 14, except for the days they are scheduled to report to school for screening. Kindergartners will not need technology devices for remote learning during the first week of school. BPES will hold a virtual kindergarten orientation on Friday, Sept. 18, and kindergartners will begin attending school in person five days a week starting Monday, Sept. 21.
Pre-K students in the 100% in-person learning model will engage in remote learning activities through Tuesday, Sept. 29. They will not need technology devices during this time. Pre-K screening will take place Sept. 21-28, and BPES will hold a virtual pre-K orientation on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Pre-K students will begin attending school in person five days a week starting Wednesday, Sept. 30.
