Rules of Order 

The Broadalbin-Perth Board of Education (the Board) meeting shall be formal enough for orderly procedure, but informal enough to be natural and to encourage discussion and to promote thought and action.

The Board of Education of the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District recognizes the need to adopt necessary procedures to conduct meetings effectively and efficiently.

In all procedural matters not covered by rules of order adopted by the Board, the conduct of the meeting shall be governed by Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised.

The Board will adhere to the following procedures:

  1. All motions made and seconded, shall be considered by the Board.
  2. The action on every motion or resolution shall be recorded in the minutes.
  3. A member may have the privilege of having his or her vote recorded in the affirmative or negative on any action of the Board.  If the member so desires the reason for his or her vote may be briefly stated in the minutes.
  4. It shall be the duty of every member to vote on all motions and resolutions submitted for action (unless excused from doing so by the presiding officer of the Board.
  5. If the vote on any motion is a tie, the motion shall be considered lost.
  6. The President shall have the right, as other members, to discuss any matter before the Board, and shall have a vote, upon all motions and resolutions.
