Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 7 training coordinators Seth Madden and Tom Carrigan visited Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School March 1 to talk with students who are interested in a career in the trades. The presentation was part of the school counseling department’s work-based learning program.
During their presentation, Madden and Carrigan emphasized the idea that hard work and dedication breed success, especially in their field. Madden and Carrigan’s presentation informed participating students about the different types of work and job sites available to their union members, and shared the pay range and benefits for jobs in these fields. They provided examples of local and regional projects that Local 7 members have worked on in recent years, including at MVP Arena in Albany, GlobalFoundries in Malta, and General Electric in Schenectady. They also spoke of the apprentice program available through the union for students who have a high school diploma or GED.
