At the end of May, an Odyssey of the Mind team from Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School will travel to Michigan State University for its third consecutive appearance in the World Finals.
The team, which includes juniors Logan Aery, Jaciano Carrero, Lauryn Donahue, Blaine Herrick, and Jacob Hughes, and sophomore Ryan Michalski, will compete in Problem 2, “Because iCan,” which challenged teams to create a device that makes tasks more complicated, including raising a flag and ringing a bell. The team’s performance had to be held in a team-created laboratory and required a costume that changes its appearance. B-P’s team is coached by Carl and Alison Aery.
To raise money to pay for the trip to East Lansing, Mich., the team is hosting a variety of fundraisers:
- Car Wash: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at the Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company, 14 Pine Street, Broadalbin.
- Basket Raffle: Purchase raffle tickets at the car wash or Spontaneous Night, or online by clicking the links below. Winners will be drawn at Spontaneous Night; attendance is not required to win.
- High School Ice Cream Sale: May 17-19 during lunch blocks at BPHS.

- McDonald’s Night: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Amsterdam McDonald’s; 20% of profits from all sales will go to the team.
