Guest WiFi Acceptable Use Policy

This policy outlines the acceptable use of the guest WiFi network provided by Broadalbin-Perth CSD to ensure a safe, secure, and productive learning environment for all students, staff, and guests.

Scope: This policy applies to all individuals who access the guest WiFi network within the premises of Broadalbin-Perth CSD, including students, parents, guardians, visitors, and temporary staff.

Acceptable Use:

  1. Educational and School-Related Activities:
    • Use of the internet must be for educational purposes or school-related activities.
    • Research, accessing educational resources, school communications, and participating in school-sanctioned online events are acceptable.
  2. General Internet Use:
    • Browsing the web, sending and receiving personal emails, and other minimal personal use that does not interfere with the educational environment are permitted.
  3. Security:
    • Users must not attempt to bypass security protocols or access unauthorized networks or systems.
    • Do not share login credentials or access codes.
  4. Content:
    • Access to or distribution of inappropriate, illegal, or harmful content (such as pornography, hate speech, or content promoting violence) is strictly prohibited.
    • Users must respect copyright laws and not engage in piracy or unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material.
  5. Bandwidth and Network:
    • High-bandwidth activities like streaming video or music for non-educational purposes should be minimized to ensure network availability for everyone.
    • Do not use the network for any form of network attack or scanning.
  6. Privacy:
    • Users should expect no privacy on the school's network; the school may monitor network traffic for security and policy compliance.

Unacceptable Use:

  • Using the network for commercial purposes or personal profit.
  • Installing or running software that could compromise network security or performance.
  • Any activity that disrupts the educational environment or compromises the safety of the network, users, or school property.

Consequences of Misuse:

  • Violation of this policy may result in immediate disconnection from the network, further disciplinary action as per the school's conduct policy, and potential legal action for severe breaches.

Reporting Violations:

  • Users should report any misuse or suspicious activity to the school administration or the IT department promptly.
