When school closed for the year because of the coronavirus pandemic, the B-P Elementary Drama Club was hard at work preparing to stage a production of “The Wizard of Oz” in early May. Holding out hope that in-person performances might still be possible, director Jen Szumowski continued to rehearse with students through video conferencing throughout the spring.
Although they won’t be able to present their performance live in front of an in-person audience, students filmed some of their favorite scenes from the show and will share them with the community during a special Facebook event Friday, July 10. The event will kick off with a “red carpet” show and drawings for raffle baskets at 6:30 p.m., followed by the premiere of “Virtual Vignettes: A Journey to Oz,” a video compilation of scenes from the B-P Drama Club’s planned production, starting at 7 p.m.
During the “red carpet” show, members of the community are encouraged to post photos of themselves and share messages with the cast and crew using the hashtag #BPinOZ. Szumowski will draw the winners of the 10 raffle baskets during a live video.
Supporters interested in purchasing raffle tickets for the baskets may do so online. For each basket, tickets cost $1 for one ticket; $2 for five tickets; and $5 for 15 tickets.
