Retired teacher Cindy Hartney returned to the grounds of Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School Thursday morning to continue an annual tradition: Joining graduating seniors to dig up a time capsule they buried 11 years ago when they were in her first-grade class at the former The Learning Community.
From the unearthed time capsule, the students pulled out class flags, trinkets from Hartney’s desk, ballet slippers, old toys, and more. With nostalgia, the students examined the items and shared with each other the drawings they had made as children that depicted their future goals and career aspirations.
“I am so proud of every single one of you,” Hartney told her former students and soon-to-be graduates. “This is a tradition that will hopefully stand for many years to come.”
