Members of the Future Cities Team had an opportunity to learn how the Albany Pine Bush preserve is creating a sustainable habitat for the Karner Blue Butterfly. Commission staff gave a brief introduction and then the students were led on a hike through the preserve. Students were also able to learn about the prescribed fire management program at takes place at the pine bush. The burning maintains open conditions allowing sunlight to reach the wild lupine. This in turn benefits the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly that the students were able to see on their walk.
