3110 – Media Relations, Municipal Cooperation, and Senior Citizen Engagement
I. Purpose
This comprehensive policy outlines the Board of Education's approach to media communication, collaboration with municipal entities, and community engagement with senior citizens. It aims to ensure clarity in communication, foster public trust, and strengthen relationships across community sectors.
II. Media Relations
A. Designated Spokespersons
- The Board President shall act as the official spokesperson for the Board.
- The Superintendent of Schools is the official spokesperson for the school district.
- Other Board members may only speak on behalf of the Board with explicit authorization.
B. Staff Communications
- All staff must coordinate with and obtain approval from the Superintendent prior to issuing any media communications.
- News releases must be sent to the Superintendent’s Office and archived accordingly.
C. Newsletters and Publications
- The district may prepare and distribute periodic newsletters to residents and post them on the district website. These newsletters may include:
- School activities
- Monthly calendar
- Community interest updates
III. Municipal Government Collaboration
- The Board shall establish and maintain positive relationships with municipal, county, and state agencies.
- Collaborations may include, but are not limited to:
- County Social Services
- Department of Health
- Recreation Department
- Public Library
- Emergency services
IV. Senior Citizen Programs
- The district shall support programs that benefit senior citizens in accordance with New York State Education Law and relevant regulations.
- These programs may include:
- Special use of school facilities and buses
- Participation in school lunch programs
- Property tax relief initiatives
