Author Alan Katz brings laughs and creativity to BPES

Students at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School shared plenty of laughs and discovered the power of creativity during a special visit from children’s author and television writer Alan Katz on Wednesday, June 3.

Known for his popular “Silly Dilly” book series, Katz entertained students with the humor and imagination that have made his books favorites among young readers for more than two decades. His best-known title, “Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs,” reimagines familiar songs with funny new lyrics, encouraging children to see everyday experiences through a creative lens.

During his presentation, Katz shared stories about his career as a writer, discussed the inspiration behind his books, and demonstrated how humor can turn ordinary ideas into memorable stories. Students also had the opportunity to participate in interactive activities that highlighted the writing process and encouraged them to think like authors themselves.

Before becoming a successful children’s author, Katz spent more than 20 years writing comedy for television. His credits include work on children’s programming for Nickelodeon and Disney, as well as writing for shows such as “Raw Toonage” and “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” earning multiple Emmy Award nominations along the way.

The visit gave students a first-hand look at the creative process behind both books and television, while reinforcing the importance of reading, writing, and imagination. Through humor, storytelling, and audience participation, Katz inspired students to embrace their creativity and discover that great ideas can come from the most unexpected places.
