B-P celebrates dedicated readers in 1,000 Book Club

Broadalbin-Perth recently recognized some of its most dedicated young readers while encouraging families to keep the momentum going through the 1,000 Book Club this summer.

The goal of the 1,000 Book Club is to encourage students in grades PK-5 to read at least 1,000 books before they head to middle school, building strong literacy habits one story at a time. At the end of the school year, the district dedicated a special plaque in the elementary lobby to permanently recognize all students who have achieved this incredible milestone.

Jackson and Emma Thelin were the latest students to achieve the 1,000-book goal this past school year. Their names join Alivia Lennon, Amelia Lennon, and Alana Novak—who previously completed the challenge and are now students at the secondary campus—on the commemorative plaque. All future students who achieve the 1,000-book milestone will also have their names added to the display.

Families can continue to work toward the 1,000 books milestone over the summer by participating in the 1,000 Book Club. Book bags are available to check out from the shelves in the elementary lobby, providing students across the primary and intermediate schools with a variety of books to enjoy at home.

To help keep the program organized and ensure materials are available for everyone, families are asked to follow the posted instructions and complete the sign-out process before borrowing a book bag. Look for the signs displayed at the 1,000 Book Club station for details.

The 1,000 Book Club is one of several literacy opportunities offered by B-P elementary students throughout the summer, alongside Summer Storytimes, the Tale Trail, and the Read Around Town Summer Reading Challenge. Together, these programs help students stay engaged in reading, strengthen literacy skills, and remain connected to their school community even while school is out of session.
