B-P construction and skilled trades students gain real-world experience through community projects

Students in Broadalbin-Perth High School’s Construction & Skilled Trades 2 class are getting hands-on experience in post-and-beam construction while giving back to the community. Under the direction of teacher Nicole Battisti, the students are building new dugouts at Broadalbin Town Park.

In addition, Tessa Filiberto’s Everyday Engineering students are partnering with the construction students to design and build two more dugouts for the village’s First Avenue fields. The collaboration provides both groups of students with practical exposure to post-and-beam design and real-world teamwork.

“These projects go beyond the classroom,” Battisti said. “They allow our students to apply what they’ve learned while contributing something meaningful to the community.”

The work aligns with the district’s core values by providing students with hands-on learning and real-world experiences in the skilled trades through community-based projects. By combining technical training with service, Broadalbin-Perth’s construction and skilled trades program aims to prepare students for future careers while making a positive impact in their school and community.
