Battisti, Morris receive April MVP awards

Congratulations to the April recipients of the Most Valuable Patriot (MVP) award, BPHS science teacher Matt Battisti and BPES second grade teacher Doug Morris!

Matthew Battisti, BPHS science teacher

Matt Battisti has worked as a teacher for almost 12 years. He started with B-P in 2021 as a science teacher and has made a difference during his time with the district, as evidenced by a student nominating him for the MVP award this month. 

"Great teacher," a student wrote. "Mr. Battisti is always available for extra help. I struggled a lot with physics in beginning of year and now with his extra help I am doing a lot better." 

Battisti was honored to hear about getting the MVP award as a teacher. 

"Getting the MVP award as a teacher, you get into teaching to make a difference in kids lives. So it is very satisfying to hear that you are. Any little bit that demonstrates that you are is always good to witness."

"It really has been a rewarding and refreshing experience," Battisti said. "Everyone from administration to fellow teachers to the students has been really supportive. It has been an excellent experience.

Doug Morris, second grade teacher

BPES teacher Doug Morris was "super excited" to be recognized as an MVP this month. He has enjoyed his time at B-P, especially the relationships he has formed throughout the district. 

"Building relationships with my students and their families is one of my favorite parts of this profession," Morris said. "I believe that building solid relationships and making connections are the most essential and important parts of this career." 

Morris was nominated for the MVP Award by a parent, who spoke very highly of his support for his students. 

"My son is thriving in Mr. Morris' class this year!" the nomination said. "I have appreciated Mr. Morris' willingness to take the time to talk with me, not only teacher-to-parent but also parent-to-parent. He's drawn on his experience with his own son to help me support my son through some challenges, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have him in Mr. Morris' class."

Morris has been happy to work with students, as well as parents. 

"They say it takes a village to raise a child," Morris said. "I am just happy and grateful to be able to do what I do, every day." 

Each month, two district employees are recognized through Broadalbin-Perth's MVP program. Each winner receives a B-P Yeti mug. Nominations can come from any member of the school community and all nominations should be submitted online. The deadline to nominate a B-P employee for the April MVP award is Tuesday, May 7.
