Bezio, Samek receive January MVP Awards
Congratulations to the January recipients of the Most Valuable Patriot (MVP) award, bus driver Mary Bezio, and Patriot Academy technology teacher Dave Samek!
Mary Bezio, bus driver
Mary Bezio is in her fourth year as a bus driver for the district, with three of those years as a full-time driver.
Bezio's nomination was from the parent of a student who rides her bus. "Miss Mary has been such a blessing. She’s always going above and beyond for the safety of her kiddos and ease of mind for the parents," wrote the parent. "From going out of her way to make sure she knows their schedules to ensure they get to where they need to be, to always greeting them with a smile, or parting ways on Fridays with a little treat and a hug goodbye, Miss Mary makes it a point to make sure her kiddos and parents know they are safe with her."
In response to her nomination, Bezio said, "I enjoy driving and I enjoy having the kids on the bus. It's my favorite time of day."
Dave Samek, Patriot Academy technology teacher
Dave Samek is in his 27th year as a teacher at Broadalbin-Perth, and currently works as a technology teacher in the Patriot Academy at B-P Jr./Sr. High School.
Samek was nominated by a colleague. His nomination read, in part, "He is always encouraging [students] to try new things and is always there to support their passions... Students absolutely love him, appreciating his dedication and his amazing sense of humor. Beyond his work with students, Dave is an amazing colleague who is always willing to collaborate, share ideas, and offer support to his team. He is more than just a teacher — he is a mentor, a motivator, and a supporter for both students and colleagues alike."
Samek said he was honored to receive the MVP award. "I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside the amazing teachers and students in the Patriot Academy," he said. "I wish every educator and student could experience what we’ve created here because I believe the Patriot Academy represents what 21st-century education should be for all students. Being part of this program is already a tremendous reward, but it’s always meaningful to have your daily hard work recognized."
Each month, two district employees are recognized through Broadalbin-Perth's MVP program. Each winner receives a B-P Yeti mug. Nominations can come from any member of the school community and all nominations should be submitted online. The deadline to nominate a B-P employee for the February MVP award is Friday, Feb. 7.
