BPES celebrates success of RMHC read-a-thon with holiday sing-along

Students at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School gathered together on the last day before the holiday break to sing Christmas carols and decorate a human Christmas tree. The assembly celebrated the school's first time participating in a read-a-thon that benefitted the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Students started by selecting Principal Dan Casey to stand on stage and be decorated like a Christmas tree – an activity inspired by the book "Mooseltoe" by Margie Palatini. The students who raised the most money got to wrap their principal with lights and tinsel, dot him with ornaments, and place a tree topper on his head.

After their human tree was decorated, students and staff sang Christmas carols, and had a surprise visit from Santa Claus.

In all, BPES raised $4,176.10 for RMHC through the read-a-thon. The school's top fundraiser, third grader Kyle Fetterly, embodied the district's core value of service by going one step further after the read-a-thon ended: He made and sold hand-crafted ornaments and donated all of his proceeds to RMHC.
