BPES kicks off read-a-thon to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities
Starting Friday, Nov. 1, students at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School will have an added incentive to read for the recommended 20 minutes (or more) each day. As part of a read-a-thon, students will be raising money to support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Capital Region.
Families can create an online fundraising page for their children through the Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School team, or collect pledges through the form being sent home with students.
The Capital Region Ronald McDonald House is located near Albany Medical Center and serves as a home-away-from-home for families and children dealing with serious illnesses or injuries. Families can stay at the house at no cost to them while their children are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Through the Read for RMHC program, students from BPES collect pledges from friends and family for all the minutes they will read (or be read to) throughout the month of November. Students log their reading minutes, then collect the pledged donations at the end of the month. Participating students also have the opportunity to win prizes; view the video below to learn more about the program and prizes:
BPES principals Dan Casey and Kerri Barker have also offered an incentive: If more than 50% of students participate in the read-a-thon, the students will get to decorate the principals like Christmas trees during an upcoming school assembly. View the video below to learn more:
Information packets are going home with students on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The read-a-thon runs throughout the month of November. Learn more about Read for RMHC at the website of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region.
