BPES students participate in annual STEAM days
Full STEAM ahead! Students at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School were treated to their annual STEAM days on the final days before the Thanksgiving recess. Students learned about all things related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math projects while using creative thinking and problem-solving combined with hands-on learning.
Students in pre-K and kindergarten worked with various types of robots and created art. Students in first and second grade built with Lincoln logs and created marble mazes. Third- and fourth-grade students worked with Ozobots, LEGO, and Geomakers, and students in fifth and sixth grade worked with Keva planks and built bridges.
“We believe that STEAM education is vital in helping students develop 21st-century skills and fostering an appreciation for innovation and problem-solving,” said BPES art teacher Janel Dievendorf on behalf of the school’s STEAM team in an all-staff email about STEAM days. The letter also asked teachers to encourage their students to explore new interests and ask questions about their thought process.
As part of the STEAM days celebration, students also put on their annual Dash Parade. The parade featured student-designed robot “floats” that paraded behind the BPHS pep band and were followed by the Patrioettes high school dance team.
