BPES students search for evidence of water on Mars in their own backyard

Sixth grade students in Michael Nacheman's science classes at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School recently searched for evidence of water on Mars on the new nature trails behind the school.

Nacheman explained that the students were looking for evidence of the geologic process of flowing water, which has the power to shape a landscape. Scientists have examined images of the surface of Mars in hopes of finding similar evidence, which would indicate that there was water on the red planet's surface in its ancient past.

After exploring the BPES nature trails, Nacheman said that students compared their backyard evidence with similar processes that could have formed a channel on Mars.
