BPHS students explore careers in food distribution at Driscoll Food Expo

On Tuesday, April 21, a group of 24 Broadalbin-Perth High School business students stepped beyond the classroom and into the fast-paced world of food distribution and logistics during a visit to the annual Driscoll Food Expo at the Saratoga Springs City Center.

Driscoll Foods, one of the largest independent food distributors in the Northeast, hosts the expo each year to showcase the scale and complexity of the food service industry. For the students, the experience transformed textbook concepts into real-world learning.

Throughout the event, students interacted directly with industry professionals, including suppliers, procurement specialists, and business leaders. The expo served as a live demonstration of key business concepts, including supply chain management, relationship-based selling, and large-scale event operations.

Students also participated in a Goosechase scavenger hunt designed to highlight marketing strategies, workplace skills, and career pathways across the food service industry. The activity encouraged students to think critically about how businesses communicate with customers and operate behind the scenes.

The visit concluded with a question-and-answer session featuring industry leaders, who encouraged students to continue developing professional etiquette, networking skills, and career-ready habits. Students also learned about the wide range of opportunities available beyond restaurant settings, including careers in sales and marketing, accounting, management, and supply chain logistics.

Experiences like the Driscoll Food Expo help students connect classroom learning with real-world applications while exploring potential career pathways in one of the nation’s largest employment sectors.
