Broadalbin-Perth FBLA students compete at spring district meeting, prepare for state leadership conference

Student members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School recently competed at the Spring District Meeting, where they earned awards in events like job interviews, public speaking, and decision-making.

Junior Logan Haight secured first place in the job interview event and qualified for the New York state leadership conference. Senior Alex Vogel earned third place in the public speaking event and senior Devon Oakden placed third in the client service category. Both are alternates for the state competition. Sophomore Vincent Murphy placed fifth in the introduction to decision-making event and is also an alternate for the state conference.

Oakden, who is president of B-P’s FBLA chapter as well as the District 4 Public Relations Officer, says, “Anyone interested in pursuing their own business, career, or degree should participate in FBLA and gain the insight that is freely available through participating in all of the competitive events offered.”

For FBLA students, the year began with the Fall District Meeting, where students learned about upcoming competitions, what’s expected of them, and how to get involved. After the Spring District Meeting, select students will attend the State Leadership Conference in Rochester to compete for a chance to attend nationals in Anaheim, Calif. Students who place fourth or higher at the state conference are eligible to participate in the national leadership conference.
