Broadalbin-Perth students bring home honors from Olympics of the Visual Arts

Students in the Patriot Academy at Broadalbin-Perth High School, along with members of art teacher Jen Locke’s OVA Club, recently showcased their creativity and talent at the 44th annual Olympics of the Visual Arts competition in Saratoga Springs.

This statewide event brought together 24 school districts, 202 teams, and nearly 900 students from across New York.

Broadalbin-Perth’s students delivered an outstanding performance, earning top honors in multiple categories:

  • 1st place – High school photography
  • 2nd place – High school sculpture
  • 2nd place – High school architecture

The first-place finish in photography marks the fourth consecutive year that Patriot Academy students have secured a state title in a category.

“Finishing first in a category for four consecutive years highlights the program’s continued excellence and dedication to the visual arts,” said Patriot Academy art teacher John Dievendorf. “Our students demonstrated exceptional skill, collaboration, and commitment throughout the event.”

Students competing in the photography category included sophomores Kendra Blongiewicz, Lauren Hollenbeck, Sophia Iannotti Chambers, Janerose Lis, and Emma Maloney Diamond. Students competing in the architecture category included sophomores Sophia McConville, Kristina Martuscello, Leland O’Brien, Hannah Sawyer, Natalie Weaver, and Sammy Vincent. Students competing in the fashion category included juniors Emaan Dahan, Hailee Dopp, Lorennzo Innes, Blake Lawson, Connor Murphy, Alyssa Reed, Ryder Baldwin, Ethan Merwin, and William Haessig. Students competing in the drawing category included juniors Nova Aldi, Henjin Bornt, Aidan Centrella, and Dylan Manzer. Students competing in the sculpture category included juniors Sofia DeLorenzo, Alle Newhart, and Emma Schiller.

Locke’s middle school students in the OVA Club also represented the district at the competition, showcasing their creativity in the fashion category by designing and constructing a dress. The team included eighth graders Julia Casio, Ana Pitkin, Ramona Petherick, and Allison Muldowney.

High school OVA Club members competed in the design category with a tabletop design entry. That team included senior Jackson Winney, juniors Zoey Martz and Logan Richmond, sophomores Gia Dennie and Riley Williams, and freshmen Cambria D’Addetta, Renee Mason, and Josie Parslow.

The Olympics of the Visual Arts celebrate creativity, innovation, and problem-solving through artistic expression. Through the program, student teams solve design challenges to promote creativity and STEAM skills. Teams submit long-term projects and participate in on-demand, in-person challenges in categories like sculpture, fashion, and architecture.
