Broadalbin-Perth students build connections through new 'fireside chats'

Students in Anna Kittredge’s family and consumer science (FACS) classes at Broadalbin-Perth Middle School are taking time to strengthen relationships with one another through a new activity called “fireside chats.”

The chats, which began this month, give students a chance to spend a few minutes addressing each other directly, sharing personal interests, hobbies, and recent accomplishments. The goal, Kittredge said, is to encourage students to celebrate each other’s successes while practicing communication and listening skills.

The initiative is part of Broadalbin-Perth Middle School’s efforts to create a supportive classroom environment where students feel seen and valued.

Students are expected to continue the weekly chats throughout the year as a way to build community within the classroom.
