Broadalbin-Perth students participate in weeklong series of theater workshops

Broadalbin-Perth students entering grades 1 through 8 are spending this week immersed in a series of hands-on theater workshops designed to build skills, boost confidence, and prepare them for two culminating performances with the Missoula Children's Theatre.

The workshops are part of a weeklong theater program that introduces and expands on students’ knowledge of multiple aspects of the performing arts. Workshop topics include:

• Puppetry with BPES music teacher Emily West
• Lighting and Sound Design with recent alumni Paige Pfeiffer and Emma Watermann
• Choreography, Dance, and Movement with BPES teacher and elementary drama co-director Tammy Staie
• Drama Games with BPHS drama co-director Mike Ott
• Playwriting with BPHS ELA teacher Anna Savino
• Story Acting and Scenic Design using Scratch Jr. with BPES teaching assistant and elementary drama co-director Jen Szumowski
• Vocal Confidence and Singing with recent alumna Kate Szumowski
• Audition Techniques with recent alumna Lillian Faulkner
• Improvisation with Alysa Richards and Rachel Medina, Missoula Children’s Theatre tour actor/directors

The program not only introduces students to the foundational elements of theater production but also provides them with the chance to apply what they've learned in a live performance. In the afternoons, students are working with Richards and Medina to prepare a production of “Alice in Wonderland.” The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency is sponsored by the Broadalbin-Perth PTO.

Performances will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, July 11, and at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12 in the Margaret Robin Blowers Auditorium at B-P Jr./Sr. High School. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $5 each. Children age two and younger will be admitted free of charge.
