Capital project work on track and roofs continues; asbestos abatement to begin at BPES June 30

With the school year winding down, capital project work at Broadalbin-Perth schools is getting set to ramp up for the summer.

At B-P Jr./Sr. High School, contractors working to replace the track at Patriot Field have determined that the planned full-thickness replacement is only needed in the “D zones,” not on the straightaways. This will allow the school to hold its graduation ceremony on the field as planned on Thursday, June 26, weather permitting.

Also at the high school, contractors are beginning work to replace identified sections of roofing while working around Regents exam schedules. Surveyors are working at the front of the building where the new sidewalk is set to be built this summer.

At B-P Elementary School, roofers are putting the finishing touches on the sections of roof that were replaced. Contractors are removing trees along the school’s boundary with the Perth Cemetery, setting the stage for repaving of the access road and installing new fencing between the properties. The floor of the BPES big gymnasium will be replaced during the month of July, which includes asbestos abatement of the area beneath the gym floor beginning June 30. Access to the building will be restricted to 12-month employees to allow this work to move forward unimpeded.

As capital project work continues, the district will update the community on restrictions to buildings and campuses, as well as milestones of completed work. Questions about capital project construction can be directed to Director of Communications Michele Kelley at kelleym@bpcsd.org.
