Eglin, Sweeney receive May MVP Awards

Congratulations to the May recipients of the Most Valuable Patriot (MVP) award, teaching assistant Megan Eglin, and science teacher Julia Sweeney!

Megan Eglin, Teaching Assistant

Teaching assistant Megan Eglin is in her third year with the district. She began as a substitute and is currently in her second full year of supporting learning in the classroom.

In addition to her school-day duties, Eglin also advises multiple clubs. She runs Beautiful Me and Confidence Club, both through the Hance Family Foundation. Eglin explained that these programs are education-based self-esteem programs designed to foster confidence, self-awareness, and care, as well as meaningful relationship-building skills.

"Megan consistently goes above and beyond each day to ensure our students are not only safe but genuinely cared for," wrote the co-worker who nominated her. "Megan is someone we can always count on... Her willingness to support both staff and students in any capacity makes her an invaluable part of our team. Through the clubs she leads, countless students have found a safe space to grow, reflect, and gain self-assurance. What sets Megan apart is her ability to truly connect with students. She speaks with them at their level, with genuine care and attentiveness to their individual needs. Her presence brings comfort, stability, and hope to so many of our learners."

Eglin said her nomination moved her to tears. “I never expected to hear such accolades. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the team of teachers I work with. The love and support is felt each and every day and I feel blessed to have been given the chance to impact lives in this way.”

Julia Sweeney, Science Teacher

Julia Sweeney is in her fourth year with the district as a science teacher. She also leads the Adventure Club with fellow teacher Danielle Jiquere.

"Miss Sweeney has been an MVP since the very beginning," read her nomination, which was from a former student. "I had her as a teacher two years ago, and since then, we have still kept in touch. Sweeney has gone above and beyond for me, yet she doesn’t have to, helping me get a glimpse into the education field. Sweeney makes sure to make a welcoming environment for all of her students, including students she doesn’t have. She works to accommodate each and every student, and brings such a great amount of positivity and laughter to the Broadalbin-Perth community."

"It's a great feeling [to win an MVP award], especially coming from a student," Sweeney said. "To leave such an impact, as time goes on, is just an even better feeling. I just want to be a person with them and have an impact versus just focusing on content.

"The reason I started working at B-P is that it reminds me of my hometown," Sweeney added. "Everyone here is very community-based, supportive, and prideful, and that's what I was looking for in a district. As soon as I came here, I was like, this is it, this is home. And I've been here since."

Each month, two district employees are recognized through Broadalbin-Perth's MVP program. Each winner receives a B-P Yeti mug. Nominations can come from any member of the school community and all nominations should be submitted online. The deadline to nominate a B-P employee for the June MVP award is Monday, June 2.
