First-grade students fly homemade kites
First-grade students spent a day in the sun at the Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School playground flying kites they made. Prior to summer break, the students learned how to make kites while learning about the Children's Day Festival celebrated in Japan every year on May 5, which celebrates how wonderful children are. In their art classes with teacher Janel Dievendorf, students learned about the carp fish kites that are associated with the festival, and what they represent. Students had the chance to make and decorate their own kites, which they then flew.
