Five Broadalbin-Perth students receive national academic awards
Five students from Broadalbin-Perth received academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. Seniors Josie Acuri, Jace Garrison, Nicholas Georgelos, and Laurel Mitchell all received the National Rural and Small Town Award. Senior Alexander Vogel received the First Generation Award.
To be eligible for the Rural and Small Town Award, students had to meet the following criteria:
- GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 assessment scores that are within the top 10% of assessment takers in each state for each award program or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams in 9th and 10th grade.
- Attend school in a rural area or small town, or identify as African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino, or Indigenous/Native.
To be eligible for the First Generation Award, students had to meet the following criteria:
- PSAT/NMSQT® or PSAT™ 10 scores within the top 10% of test takers for each award program in each state or a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams by the end of 10th grade.
- Student’s parent(s) does not have a bachelor's degree.

Their hard work and dedication to their education deserve this type of recognition," said Mark Brooks, B-P Jr./Sr. High School principal. "Above all, these are tremendous people both inside and outside of the classroom. The entire Broadalbin-Perth community is extremely proud of their accomplishments!"
Eligible students are invited to apply on College Board’s BigFuture® website during their sophomore or junior year and are awarded at the start of the next school year in time to share their achievements in high school as they plan for the future.
