Buchanan, Orminski receive January MVP awards

Congratulations to the January recipients of the Most Valuable Patriot (MVP) award, teaching assistant and BSP/ASP coordinator Kim Buchanan and high school health teacher Emily Orminski.

Kim Buchanan wears many hats at B-P Elementary School, including office staff, teaching assistant, and coordinator of the school's before and after school child care programs (BSP and ASP). It is for her work in that last role that earned her a nomination for this month's MVP award.

"Mrs. Buchanan has gone above and beyond to be there for my daughter this year," a grateful parent wrote. "Since the first few days of school, she has gone out of her way to make my daughter feel comfortable. My daughter was new to B-P this year and was really nervous about leaving me in the morning. Mrs. Buchanan helped her to work through this fear and walked her to the before school program in the morning until she felt comfortable. She has also helped my daughter with her homework during the after school program and made her feel very welcomed at B-P."

"What I love most about my day is when I can interact with the students," Buchanan said. "Whether it's helping a student to start their day off right, helping them succeed with a homework assignment, or just playing a game, those moments are the most special to me."

A recipient of a Successory award during the first year of that program, the 2014-15 school year, Buchanan received an Outstanding Patriot of the Year award in 2020, the highest honor bestowed on an employee by the district.

Emily Orminski, high school health teacher

In her second year as a health teacher at B-P Jr./Sr. High School, Emily Orminski is making an impact. Her nomination for an MVP award came from one of her students, who wrote, "She is always there when kids need someone to talk to or just there to help with class work."

"I am so honored to have been chosen for the MVP award," Orminski said. "I am inspired by each and every student I meet! They make it easy to come to work every day."

Each month, two district employees are recognized through Broadalbin-Perth's MVP program. Each winner receives a B-P Yeti mug. Nominations can come from any member of the school community and all nominations should be submitted online. The deadline to nominate a B-P employee for the January MVP award is Thursday, Feb. 8.
