Gugliemelli, Staie receive November MVP Awards
Congratulations to the November recipients of the Most Valuable Patriot (MVP) award, BPHS business teacher Candice Gugliemelli, and BPES K-2 media center and PLTW teacher Tammy Staie.
Candice Gugliemelli, BPHS business teacher
Candice Gugliemelli is in her 18th year of teaching overall and her sixth year at B-P. Gugliemelli is also a co-advisor of B-P's chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
Gugliemelli’s nomination read, in part, “Mrs. Gugliemelli has always gone above and beyond her students. I have seen her transform not only my career in the business field, but others'. She is a constant reminder in this field that you can go far if you put the work in. And although there are some limits, she finds ways to overcome them.”
Gugliemelli said she was very honored to have won an MVP award.
“Our job as business teachers is to provide real-world experiences,” she said. “Coming from a small town like ours, it's important for students to see all that the world has to offer.”
Tammy Staie, K-2 media center, and PLTW teacher
Tammy Staie, a 1995 Broadalbin-Perth High School graduate, has been working at her alma mater for more than two decades. In addition to her job as a media center and Project Lead the Way teacher for students in grades K-2, she is also involved in many other programs throughout the district, including the elementary drama club, Odyssey of the Mind, and "What’s up B-P?!"
“I love what I do. I love reading and sharing books with the kids," Staie said. "I'm so excited when they can take the things I have taught here and apply it into their every day, and when I hear feedback from parents that they are, that just really makes my day and my heart soar."
Staie said she was caught by surprise by her selection as an MVP winner, but also said she was very honored.
Staie’s nomination came from a parent and coworker. “My two daughters come home every day so excited to tell me what they learned," the nomination read. "Tammy is so energetic and enthusiastic. The kids love being in her room. Not only is she a fantastic teacher for my daughters, but she is also an amazing coworker. She always puts the kids first and makes sure all her lessons are child-centered.”
Staie says she loves her students and strives to stay connected to them long after they leave her classroom.
"I want them to know that, once they are Mrs. Staie's student, they are Mrs. Staie's student for life and my door is always open, even if it has nothing to do with school," Staie said. "I am here and I will always be here to help them in any way possible that I can."e
Each month, two district employees are recognized through Broadalbin-Perth's MVP program. Each winner receives a B-P Yeti mug. Nominations can come from any member of the school community and all nominations should be submitted online. The deadline to nominate a B-P employee for the December MVP award is Monday, Dec. 2.
